Accessibility on this website

h3. Access keys

You can quickly get to some parts of the site using keyboard shortcuts, otherwise known as “access keys”.

The shortcuts available are:

  • s – Skip all navigation and go straight to the main content on the page
  • 1 – Home page
  • 8 – Terms of use
  • 9 – Contact details
  • 0 – Accessibility details

If you are using a Windows computer, how you activate the shortcut may depend on which web browser you are using.

You’ll either have to press the ALT key at the same time as the shortcut key, or press the ALT key at the same time as the shortcut key and then press the ENTER button.

If you are using a Macintosh, you’ll have to press the CTRL key at the same time as the shortcut key.

Please note that not all browsers support these keyboard shortcuts.

The Manchester Book Award website uses the UK Government accesskeys standard, which is part of the “Illustrated Handbook for Web Management Teams”:http://archive.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/e-government/resources/handbook/html/htmlindex.asp.

h3. Skipping through the page

There are navigation links on each page that enable you to skip the bits you don’t want to read in order to quickly get to the bit you want.

These “hidden” links are accessible to users of certain non-visual browsers, users of visual browsers who have cascading style sheets turned off, or users of old web browsers.

Starting from the top of the page, you can skip through the following sections of the page:

  • Main navigation links
  • Main page content
  • Additional page content
  • Footer

Renew your books, search the library catalogue and reserve the Manchester Book Award books you want to read, all for free!
