This book is fascinting but it gave me the creeps when I was reading the last chapter, because I discovered that the kids were dead and it’s tragic at the same time because you wouldn’t expect your own dad poisoning you and the way all the little tales that are linked together throughout in side the book are linked to the last chapter of the book. So interesting even though it’s another horror book! This book I would say is definetevely for ages 13+.
This book is quit good but may be for 8 year olds. If the mba is 11-14 then its not ment to be in the 24.
Book rating-4/10
age 7+
First impression: childish, pirates, ships, strange illness, old inn, storms, terrifying, suspicions, dawn.
After Reading: Plot- the ending was really good, it was fun to read as it had loads of stories attached to one which excited me and kept me reading all the way through. I wanted it to be moiré terrifying though. 4 out of 5!
Characterisation- I really liked the special brother-sister bond between Ethan and Cathy. The characters were quite believable but maybe the father should have been described more. 4 out 0f 5!
Language/Writing Style- it was a well structured book but it wasn’t exactly ‘blood-curdling’ like the blurb claimed it was. The vocabulary was interesting and it was mostly clear what was happening. The only scary thing was when they found out that Thackeray was a ghost and they were as well and also that they were poisoned every time there was a storm by their own father by a strange plant. The pirate language was suited to the sort of background so it wasn’t difficult to understand. 3 out of 5!
Appeal- I really enjoyed this book, it’s aimed at people who enjoy adventure. People wouldn’t like it at first but as they progress on with the book they will start to enjoy it. 4 out of 5!
Overall the grand total is 15 out of 20!
This book is a fantastic book for those who like horror books but it was quite sad, the poor kids not knowing that they are dead and that is their father that killed them and he also kills himself. Overall this book was a really fantastic book to read.
this book was quite hard. i also recomend not reading this at night. i did understand it a bit but not enough to tell the story. You should only read it if you are good at and you do not get frigtend easily. but it does get interesting at one point. Read and find out.
i didn’t personally enjoy this book and that is not because it wasn’t scary. i didn’t find this book very well written and it is more a short story book turned into a novel by bits of description inbetween. having said this i did think that the ideas for the stories were excellent and that the end chapter was one of the best i have ever read. isn’t it sad how the dad poisoned his kids with wolfsbane (an actual plant that is very poisonous). this book is a 5/10.
A very suitable name. Not a book to be read after dark. You might think you know some scary tales, but trust me, none as packed with terror as this. Join Ethan and Cathy as they learn that the tales they know of are mice as opposed to the blue whale tales they later hear.
This is a book to be read only by those in for a terrifying thrill.
