This book is all about a girl that cannot live without cleanliness. In about the middle of the story her dad goes missing and she left alone with her step mum. They have a nextdoor neighbour who is called Heather. Zelah loves her and knows that she would never do anything bad to hurt her.Zelah`s step mum gets Heather to make up that she is really worried about how her step mum is really mean to her and tells her that she is going to take Zelah to live with one of her really close friends. But really this is a home for children that have very wierd problems like hers. When Zelah and Heather get there Heather drops her off at the door without letting her any questions. She dosen`t like it at first but then gets used to it and all the people.
I think that this is the best book in the Manchester Book Award shortlist and I think that it should win.
Where to start? well the book in its self is very appealing and just to look at the book was great. i just think that this book was great becasue it wasnt like the others; serios anmd extreame it was just a easy read to laupgh and joke about.
i love the way Vanessa concentrates on real life matters and makes them sound fun. Zelah was a very intresting character as suffering from OCD can be tough but she didnt seam to take it that bad. The other characters where really intresing i loved this boook and i think it should win.
this book is kind of wierd at first because you dont get what the problem is with zelah but when you read on…
its about a girl called zelah who is cleanaholic, she canot see dirt if she does she has to pick it up. she uses tissue on seatbelts, picking things up, opening taps and touching something she just cant see dirt! her mum passed away and since then her dad became alcoholic.her dad got married to someone else, so zelah lives with her stepmother and has no idea where her dad is.
her stepmother cant put up with her behaviour and sends her off to hospital to get treated. however her mums helper has come to the rescue and instead of taking her to the hospital she has taken her to a special home where everyone gets treated. over there she meets some wierd and crazy people who finally become her friend.sol a boy who she likes , she actually doesnt mind touching!!!
its a strange mysterious book
i think zeleh green is a really good book because it is about a girl who is a cleanaholic and she gets sent away to this care place where she makes some friends and she meets all these people who have problems, like there is a girl who only eats yoghurt because she’s allergic to everything else and there is this goth girl who makes lots of paintings and listens to a lot of gothic music and gets caught by zelah when she is making a painting using her blood. There is also a boy who doesnt speak.
i think this book has a very good chance of winning because it has a good story to it and it is very different to other stories. thats why it is really good.
its was ok but a bit sappy
when i first looked at this book i though .. hmm … doesnt look very good. but it is true , looks can be deceptive and in this case that was very very true. zelah green is a girl who has ocd (obsessive compulsive dissorder) and loves everything being clean , neat and tidy. but everybody is sick and tired of her annoying obbsessive ways. so zelah is sent away to a hospital to be treated. zelah is scared and starts to see herself as a freak.. but everybody has problems dont they. when zelah starts to uncover some of the pasts of the other girls and boys in the home she starts to make friends but can they keep up with the costly prices of the hospital or will zelah never get better !! im not telling you so if i was you i would read it . 10/10 brilliant read
Vanessa Curtis is a genius! When i first started reading this book it imediatly caught my attention.Zelah is more or less the opposite of me,i absolutley hate cleaning!
Once i had started to read i could not put the thing down. All of the images flashed through my head of zelah and sol,lib and alice, the doc and josh and most of all caro. When i was reading it felt as though i was in the house with zelah and that i was experiencing all of the things she was.It was so incredible.By far the best book i have read so far.
It’s a good book but a bit over exagerating. Plus it has a lot of happiness and sadness. It’s like happy sad happy sad happy…
First Impression: Funny, Vivid, about cleaning +flirting, stepmother influences!
After Reading: Plot: it was really unique, I loved the topic because it was really different, it was kind of exciting but it was shocking too, because of her OCD! I could relate to it because I have an hyperactivity disorder but it didn’t really concentrate on the idea of her changing from Dirt Alert/Germ Alert to Flirt Alert! 3 out of 5!
Characterisation: I understood most of the characters but Sol who was meant it one of the main characters wasn’t really explained much. They spoke in a normal teenage sort of way but when Zelah described some guy as Jesus I found that a bit pseudo. 2 out of 5!
Language/Writing Style: most of the story was clear but the vocabulary that the author used wasn’t really that conveying! 3 out of 5!
Appeal: i had a lot of fun reading it, it wasn’t really grasping but it was quite enjoyable. People aged 8 to 11 would enjoy it because it has am amateur storyline! 3 out of 5!
Overall mark: 11 out of 20!
I think this was a really good book because it talks about a different side of life and this is not normally written in a book theirs always something interesting happening like when zelah sees caro cutting herself or when zelah toches the inside of a toilet also it makes you feel really good inside when the charecters are getting better i would give this book a 9/10 because I think it would have been better if the book was a bit longer.
