The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
Todd Hewitt is the only boy in a town of men. Ever since the settlers were infected with the Noise germ, Todd can hear everything the men think, and they hear everything he thinks.
Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him – something so awful Todd is forced to flee with only his dog, whose simple, loyal voice he hears too.
With hostile men from the town in pursuit, the two stumble upon a strange and eerily silent creature: a girl. Who is she? Why wasn’t she killed by the germ like all the females on New World? Propelled by Todd’s gritty narration, readers are in for a white-knuckle journey in which a boy on the cusp of manhood must unlearn everything he knows in order to figure out who he truly is.

I found 'The Knife of Never Letting Go' a very unique book. The idea of being able to read others' thoughts makes the book very interesting and mysterious. The first 70 pages are hard to connect with but after that the book turns into a real adventure, full of mysteries and discovery. The book is very long but it is worth every minute.
A must read!

It was a brilliant book and I don’t see what problem everyone has with it. Granted, it is long and complicated to read, but when you crack through that, you emerge into a brilliant story.
The characters were also brilliant as well, and they were introduced just at the right time with just the right personalities.
A definite favourite.

This is one of the first books EVER I have not been able to bring myself to finish. It is too long and drags on for ages, the plot at a standstill. I decided that such a book was not worth reading when there were other (better) books out there!
It is, admittedly, a brilliant concept, being able to read other people’s thoughts against your and their will. However, it was not carried out in an interesting way. The plot was not well explained, the characters could not be related to, and the use of language was mundane and did nothing for the plot. I think if I wasn’t inspired to finish it, that says something about the plot and the pace.
Not very good, unfortunately.

The knife of never letting go is an ok book but definitely not half as good as twilight (which isn't on the long list) by Stephenie Meyer. everyone should read this book, however the knife of never letting go isn't half bad.

I really enjoyed The Knife of Never Letting Go. It was fast paced, mysterious, adventurous and the characters really came to life. I couldn’t put it down when Toad’s time to kill was running out. I found it really easy to get involved with the characters and I felt as if I was in the adventure with them. I really identified with them and I could understand how they felt. However the ending for me wasn’t as good as the rest of the book maybe because there is going to be an other. But this doesn’t stop me giving it a well deserved 10 out of 10.

This is one of the best books I have read this year, and I read a lot!
The idea that Todd is a boy, just one month off becoming a man, in a world without women but full of Noise is immediately gripping and you want to know why there are no women, what is all this Noise, who are the Spackle and what is the great mystery surrounding becoming a man? Todd has to escape when he discovers something in the swamp, but how do you keep a secret when everyone can hear your thoughts?
I love the characters in this book. I instantly liked Todd and his loyal dog Manchee – who thinks of little more than food and poo. Viola took longer to get to know, but she proves herself to be brave, fiesty and loving – a great companion for any adventure.
Other reviewers have complained about the ending and I must too. The cliff hanger left me in such shock and suspense that I don’t know how I will wait until the next book in the series is published!
