Slam by Nick Hornby
Whoever invented skateboarding is a genius. There’s only one skater, and his name’s Tony Hawk. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know who he is, just trust me. Not only is Hawk the world’s best skater, he’s also good to talk to.
So I talk to Tony Hawk, and Tony Hawk talks back. Because just when it seemed like everything had come together for me, I had to go and screw it all up. It only took two seconds. But all of me knew. One risk. One mistake and my life would never be the same. Hawk had a few things to say. And a few things to show me.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see your own future?

Slam is a good book about a boy who is obsessed with Tony Hawk and skating. Things in his life are getting better like the fact that his mother has dumped her rubbish boyfriend. All is good until he meets Alicia and walks into something that a 16 year old that he can’t back away from. Afterwards he begins to see himself in the future and wonders what life could hold for him. It is a good book for anybody who wants to learn about relationships and teenage problems.
At first it is a little bit to over the top with him and his Tony Hawk poster as it is quite unrealistic. I think there is a bit too much swearing in the book. Overall it was good. 3/5

This book was just stupid i didn’t like it one bit because i am a fellow skate boarder and it just didn’t make any sense.

Slam is a book with not a lot of interesting things going on in it. To me it was only about a boy having teenage problems and most children who are at the teenage stage knows how that feels.

Slam is the best book ever for teenagers who want to learn about awkward things like children and relationhips. Sam (I think he is called) emerges as a very courageous character when faced with a BIG problem!! A brilliant book also because nothing was held back, and it was written in the way that you would expect a teenage boy facing this situation would react and think.
I AM DEFINETLY VOTING FOR THIS BOOK!

This book is a fantastic novel. It managed to combine comedy and romance with fantasy, sport, and real-life situations without having ridiculous amounts of characters. (If I was a librarian I’d have trouble knowing which category this book should go into!)
I like the fact that at the beginning of the book Sam’s life is going really well, but then it all goes horribly wrong. It’s a brilliant way of turning round events that grabs the reader from very early on.
Sam is also a great character to narrate because he is witty, big-headed in a cool, funny way, and blunt, to the point. He also describes things brilliantly, in a way that isn’t cheesy but gets his point across easily.
At first I had problems with the whizzing-forward thing. I thought it was a bit unrealistic and that it didn’t fit into this kind of book. But then I realized that it made the plot so much more interesting and unique than it otherwise would have been.
The characters are really fabulous, with such vivid personalities I can almost imagine myself sitting down and having a conversation with them.
All in all a wonderful, terrific, incredible, sensational, amazing, excellent, and COOL book. I would be happy if it won.

This book is very good. It took me about 3 days to read.
It is about a boy who’s mum takes him to a party to meet a girl who he starts to like. Then later on in the book she gets pregnant and the boy runs away.
What I liked best about the book was when he was wizzed into the future when the baby had been born and he didn’t know anything about him.
The part of the book I didn’t like was when he ran away and left the girl to bring up the baby when it was born.
Overall I think this is a great book and it also teaches teenagers about problems they might face in the years to come.
I would give this book a rating of 7 out of 10 because it has quite a lot of swearing in it.
