Twin Freaks by Paul Magrs
Helen and her sister Eunice have auditioned again and again for all the TV talent shows. But nobody wants to know. They’ve been sent home by Star Turn, Search for a Celeb – by everyone! Helen’s a bit small and dumpy, but she has the voice of an angel.
Eunice is a stunner, but when she sings it’s with the voice of a warthog. As individuals, they’re hopeless. But when their pushy mum pairs up with a new boyfriend, he comes up with a fantastic way for them to get to the top. Is Diva Wars ready for the singing Siamese twin sisters?

I am quite happy that Twin Freaks didn’t make the finalist because it’s too much, ‘Fairy tale’ ending. Good author-bad storyline. I hope Paul Magers comes back to Manchester Book Awards 2009 with a better choice of storyline. Nawar

They are two sisters who just want to be famous. Helen dosen’t really mind. The only problem on their path to stardom, is that while Eunice looks right but just can’t sing, Helen has the voice of an Angel but is a dwarf. Then, when they have almost given up, their mums new boyfriend Eric comes up with the great idea to enter them as Siamese Twins! Can they win the competion, or will they be disqualified?
I really liked this book. I origanally picked it up from my library because I thought it was about real twins(I am one, so love reading about them) but I found it amazing and fantastic. Me and my Twin have always wanted to be famous, but together. I didn’t like the ending, because I don’t really like it when it lives off at the end of a story and you don’t know whats going to happen in the next few minutes! I hope there is a second book coming telling everyone what happened.
It is a fantastic book, and I would rate it an amazing: 15/10!

The two sisters are just normal people. Eunice (the older one) wants to become a star on the other hand Helen (the younger one) wants to become a travel agent.
The idea of being siamese twins is really good because its rare that anyone would think of a idea like that. Its a really abnormal way to get into a competition. That proves they really want to become a star. I liked the discription of other contestants, especially the way they were they describe Evelina Semolina and the judges. It was good to see someone who wants them to win e.g Agatha and someone who just hates them e.g Trevor Rotter.
When they get out it is a bit sad but its good when they get back in. Its really fun when everyone in their school always ask them if they are mary-sue and they had to make up loads of weird excuses. Anyway at the end when they come back in Eunice had to get in.It was funny when Evelina Semolina gives her sleeping pill in her medicine. One thing I dont like about the book is the ending because it doesnt tell you if the become a star or not. Overall It is avery good book but it also has some parts that are boring.

Amazing book. Loved every second. It kept me wanting to read on and on!
i’d recommend this book to any teenage girl, as it teaches you to follow your dreams.. and speak the truth, and also proves that nobodys perfect.
Wonderful book!

I thought that it was a real good book. I liked the fact that it had a lot of real life in it. It made you want to read on, i found it hard to put down! I also like the fact that it had a cliff hanger at the end which made it interesting.
It has a meesage of that you cant judge a book by its cover, for example:Helen is small and you wouldnt know by looking at her that shes an amazing singer.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone.

Wow! What a cool book. It’s a book you wont want to miss. Its an extremely easy book to get into. I didn’t finish it yet but up until now it’s really interesting.
Sometimes I feel sorry for Eunice and Helens mum because all she wants is to be famous and she wants her daughters to become someone rich. Which all parents would want . On the other hand her mum has a bad temper and she doesn’t really know what she’s saying but she does apologise. I think she should stop drinking alcohol.
The two sisters are just normal people. Eunice (the older one) wants to become a star on the other hand Helen (the younger one) wants to become a travel agent.
to be continued….

This book is very interesting and always keeps you attached to it, i found it hard to put this book down as it is full of suspense at the end of every chapter. i enjoyed this book very much and i like the way that paul magrs has put the sisters so opposite from one another for example, one is short and very different from other people but has the voice of an angel and the other is so very beautifull and pretty but cannot sing a note to save her life. This shows that it does not matter what you look like it is how you perform that counts. i found that very interesting about the girls and would deffinalely recommend this book to anyone.

Comparatively quick and easy to read, this book has a great first person narrative style. This modern, fast paced story is told from the point of view of Helen, the younger sister and an amazing singer, who is a dwarf- certainly not with star looks. Her elder sister, Eunice, is the one with fabulous looks, but she can’t sing a note.
My favourite character is Eddie, the sisters’ mother’s boyfriend. He is honest (although sometimes brutally!), kind, generous, and cares about other people. I also like his mother, Marlene, who is friendly, talented and welcoming, although she has a hot temper.
I don’t like Helen and Eunice’s mum, because she is very selfish and greedy. She insists that she is making the girls do auditions so they can lead wonderful lives, but in reality she just wants fame and riches for herself. She takes no notice of Helen’s desire to become a travel agent, and treats Eddie very badly.
All in all, Twin Freaks is a funny, emotional and clever book, which outlines the cruelty and prejudice surrounding modern reality TV shows.

This book really grasped my attention. For once the cover of the book related to the extravagant storyline. The outline of the chapters captured my imagination. I think the book gave a realistic impression yet the ending inruded and dilapidated the past feelings. Paul Margs really explored the life of the twin sisters and every action was convincing in an unpredictable manor. The style of sentences and the chosen words really made up the base of an absoloutly fantastic book!!!
